Choosing to see your divorce as a chance to grow is the starting point for the process of personal growth and spiritual formation. –Melody Bacon, PhD
Divorce is one of those experiences that everyone believes will happen to someone else. So what do you do when it happens to you? As a Christian believer, how can you walk through the valley of divorce and emerge better and not bitter?
Christians whose faith seemed to be left at the courtroom door as they sought to “win” their divorce have left families, communities, churches and—most tragically—their children permanently wounded by this experience. In The Grace-Filled Divorce, Dr. Melody Bacon shares a very different perspective on how to approach divorce Use something you did not want as an opportunity to receive God’s grace, being transformed into a deeper relationship with God, yourself, and others.
This book will assist readers in learning how to
—Embrace grief in order to let go of old ideas, assumptions and perspectives.
—Recognize and change relationship patterns that contributed to the divorce
—Create a workable relationship with an ex-spouse
—Partner with God to redeem the experience of divorce so that His love may be more fully revealed.

This book was Biblically-sound and offered practical ideas for navigating the agonizing pain of divorce. The key premise is that God has not allowed the death of our marriages to occur in vain; that we can use our experiences for profound growth and a deeper relationship with Christ. It's a perspective that I had not consciously considered. I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 because I believe perspectives from men would have balanced the book. I am a woman and while I related to the stories of the women in this book, I would have like to hear from men and how their experiences with divorce manifested within their lives. I think this would help many women to potentially better understand the men who they once knew, even if the marriage has no chance of surviving. Overall, this book was helpful and though I have not yet filed for divorce it is a worthwhile read.Product details

The GraceFilled Divorce edition by Melody Bacon PhD Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I love this book! I enjoyed the reflection studies for each section and referencing bible scriptures. It addresses the way Christians treat divorced women and how to overcome those feelings, and move forward in positive directions using a new mind set and way to see a very painful situation.
I wish I would have had this book years ago, but it still applies to me and I really love it.
Thank you for the wonderful book...
It's good to have concise guidelines on how to walk through this very difficult process... again thanks!
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has been divorced or are headed in that direction.
Wonderful insights, gentle directions and hope for the despairing.
As a professional counselor and someone who has facilitated divorce recovery programs on a large scale I highly recommend this book. Divorce is always painful, but this book gives the reader tools and insights to handle something negative in the most positive manner possible.
The Grace Filled Divorce is a well-written, informative book with practical guidelines for understanding dynamics that contribute to divorce, stages of divorce adjustment, healthy coping techniques and methods for healing. Ms. Bacon adds the depth of her personal insights from her loss of a husband early in life. Divorce is a death and her comments and quotes on death provided a meaningful descriptive of the overwhelming experience of loss.
I recommend this book to anyone who knows anyone undergoing or has been through a divorce. It is eloquently written by an author who knows the subject matter with her heart and mind. It is truly a helpful tool as it gives you insight on the distinct phases of divorce and all the nerve wrecking emotions that go with it. One of the best features of the book is the guidance it provides by giving you step by step exercises that you can do on your own. Overall it is a very empowering, life affirming book. Truly a MUST read.
This book addresses a few good issues/themes. It does not really help with the initial pain associated with being dumped by your partner, which is the hardest part of divorce. Given you have this incredible pain and loss, the book maps out methods to pick yourself up and move on once the pain subsides. It makes the point very well that one can do a lot with their life if they choose to.
Worth a quick read.
